The Settlement Cookbook has a long history in the United States, dating back to 1901 when it was compiled by Lizzie Black Kander who was a part of the Settlement movement in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to help recent immigrants to the United States learn about the culture and food traditions in the upper Midwest. Many of the immigrants at the time were Jews from Eastern Europe and the cookbook adapted the recipes they brought with them to be more modern and “American.” A FAIR copy. with some damage to the cover on the spine and edges.
