Hey there, bookworms, foodies and history lovers!
I got my first cookbook when I was just a kid, 13 years old to be exact. Instead of getting the typical Betty Crocker or Better Homes & Gardens cookbook, my mom surprised me with something a little more... let's say, fancy. It was none other than Julia Child's legendary Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
Now, hold onto your spatulas, because I didn't just flip through that cookbook. I read it cover to cover, like it was the most thrilling novel ever. And let me tell you, it was! I still have that cookbook today, even though it's missing its cover. (Don't ask me how that happened; it's still a mystery to me.)
But that's not all, kids. My best friend and I had this brilliant idea – let's cook a gourmet meal for our families! Oh, boy, we went all out with our menu.
- Artichokes Au Naturel with Sauce Hollandaise
- Fondue de Poulet Á La Crème
- Petits Choux au Fromage
- Crêpes Suzette.
I can still picture the kitchen after that culinary adventure. It looked like a war zone, but my mom was nothing but supportive and encouraging. I mean, who wouldn't be proud of two young chefs attempting such a fancy feast?
Now, let's fast-forward a few decades. My love for cookbooks has only grown stronger. They're like novels to me, filled with stories and flavors from around the world. My husband was quite surprised the first time he caught me reading a cookbook in the car. "Is that a cookbook you're reading?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. "Every page?"
Well, yes, I am, and I'm loving every word of it!
So, here's the deal. I have a massive collection of cookbooks, and I'm on a mission to share my love for them with all of you. I'll be exploring cookbooks from different cultures and time periods, sharing stories, recipes, and the ways in which food, foodways, and hospitality shape our lives and cultures.
